The Five Pentatonic Positions

In this lesson we are going to learn the five pentatonic positions in the key of a-minor. Remember this scale is one of the mostly widely used scale in rock and blues today. Learning these five positions can really help your ability to play in different positions on the neck, while remaining in the same key. I highly recommend memorizing these patterns and practicing them daily until they are committed to memory. Learning these five patterns will help you to get a better understanding of the neck, and allow you to improvise to a much better degree. Once you learn these I recommend learning the seven modes, this will help you to take your soloing to the next level. The reason why there are five different positions is there is a pattern starting on each note of the scale.

Check out the tabs below and have fun this is a great scale and will help you to jam the blues! Practice Tip! Always practice this scale using alternate picking, also notice the repeat symbol at the end of the scale. Repeat these as much as you can to help develop your alternate picking skill!
