Hybrid Picking

Hybrid picking is a technique where the guitarist uses a pick but also uses the pick hands fingers alternately or simultaneously. This technique allows a soloist to perform a solo with added notes that could not be picked as fast using the pick alone. Other uses include picking multiple strings at the same time or just finger picking while also using a pick. Some great guitarists that I have seen that are very good at this technique are Eric Johnson, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell and Guthrie Govan. Most guitarists that use this technique hold their pick between their thumb and index finger in order to have more free fingers to pick with. Check out some videos on YouTube to get a good understanding of this technique. I highly recommend end practicing this as it really can help you to develop your guitar playing to another level.
